Introduction

Gender mainstreaming is a globally recognized strategy for achieving gender equality by integrating gender perspectives into all stages of policy, program, and project development. This course provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding the concepts, rationale, and practical approaches of gender mainstreaming within the context of development planning and implementation. Participants will explore how gender roles, relations, and inequalities impact development outcomes, and why integrating a gender lens is essential for effective and inclusive planning.

The course begins by examining key gender concepts, frameworks, and analysis tools that help assess the different needs, priorities, and contributions of women, men, and other gender groups. Participants will learn to conduct gender analyses, interpret sex-disaggregated data, and apply analytical frameworks to inform evidence-based decision-making in diverse sectors, including health, education, agriculture, governance, and humanitarian response.

With a strong focus on practical skills, the training will equip participants to design, implement, and evaluate gender-responsive plans, policies, and programs. Participants will develop the capacity to formulate gender action plans, apply gender budgeting techniques, and monitor gender outcomes through relevant indicators. Real-world case studies and exercises will reinforce learning by offering insight into successful gender mainstreaming initiatives at national, institutional, and community levels.

By the end of the course, participants will be empowered to champion gender equality in their organizations and projects. They will gain the tools to address structural barriers to inclusion and ensure that development outcomes are equitable and sustainable. This course is particularly valuable for professionals seeking to align their work with global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 on gender equality and SDG 10 on reducing inequalities.
