Course Introduction

Women’s participation in infrastructure and construction leadership remains a critical driver of inclusive economic growth, yet significant barriers persist across technical, managerial, and decision-making roles. This course equips participants with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to advance gender equality in infrastructure development sectors.

Infrastructure and construction industries have traditionally been male-dominated, limiting opportunities for women despite their growing contributions to engineering, project management, urban planning, and skilled labor. This course addresses systemic barriers and promotes strategies for increasing women’s representation at all levels of leadership.

The program explores leadership pathways for women in construction, engineering, transport, housing, and public works projects. It emphasizes capacity building, mentorship, and institutional reforms needed to support women’s advancement in these high-impact sectors.

Participants will examine policy frameworks, labor market dynamics, and organizational cultures that influence women’s participation in infrastructure development. The course also highlights global best practices for promoting gender equality in large-scale construction and infrastructure programs.

Practical case studies from public and private infrastructure projects will be used to demonstrate successful models of women-led leadership, inclusive procurement systems, and gender-responsive project management approaches.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and support initiatives that increase women’s leadership, participation, and influence in infrastructure and construction sectors at local, national, and global levels.
