Course Introduction

Sustainable agriculture is a critical driver of food security, rural development, and climate resilience. However, women—who play a central role in agricultural production—often face structural barriers that limit their leadership, access to resources, and participation in agribusiness value chains. This course addresses these gaps through a leadership and enterprise development lens.

Women in rural areas frequently encounter challenges such as limited access to land, finance, technology, training, and markets. These constraints reduce productivity and economic empowerment. This program explores practical strategies for overcoming these barriers and strengthening women’s leadership in agricultural systems.

A key focus of the course is developing leadership capacities among women in agriculture and rural enterprises. Participants will learn how to strengthen decision-making skills, build confidence, and enhance strategic thinking to drive agricultural innovation and rural economic transformation.

The program also examines sustainable agricultural practices, including climate-smart farming, agroecology, and value addition. It highlights how women can lead in adopting sustainable methods that increase productivity while protecting natural resources and ecosystems.

In addition, the course explores rural enterprise development, including agribusiness planning, cooperative formation, and market access strategies. Participants will learn how to build viable enterprises that generate income and promote community development.

Ultimately, this course equips participants with the leadership, technical, and entrepreneurial skills needed to advance women’s participation in sustainable agriculture and rural enterprise development.
