Course Introduction

Women’s leadership in peacebuilding and security processes is a critical driver of sustainable development, social cohesion, and long-term stability in communities affected by conflict and social fragmentation. This course on Women’s Leadership in Peace, Security, and Community Dialogue is designed to strengthen the capacity of women leaders to actively participate in peace processes, conflict prevention, and post-conflict recovery efforts at all levels of society.

Despite increasing recognition of women’s roles in peace and security frameworks, their participation in formal negotiation tables, security institutions, and community dialogue platforms remains limited. Structural inequalities, cultural barriers, and exclusionary systems continue to restrict their influence. This course addresses these gaps by equipping participants with practical leadership, negotiation, and advocacy skills.

Peace and security are not only the absence of conflict but also the presence of justice, inclusion, and equitable access to resources and opportunities. Women often play central roles in informal peacebuilding at community levels, yet their contributions are frequently undervalued or excluded from official recognition. This training elevates these roles and integrates them into formal peace and security frameworks.

The course also explores how community dialogue mechanisms can serve as powerful tools for preventing violence, resolving disputes, and strengthening trust between diverse groups. Participants will learn how to facilitate inclusive dialogues that bring together stakeholders across gender, age, ethnicity, and political divides to foster sustainable peace.

In addition, the program examines global frameworks such as UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. Participants will gain insight into how these frameworks can be localized and operationalized to enhance women’s participation in peacebuilding, security governance, and conflict resolution processes.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to lead peacebuilding initiatives, facilitate community dialogue processes, and influence security policies that are inclusive, gender-responsive, and sustainable in diverse and conflict-affected contexts.
