Course Introduction

Women’s leadership in community health and social care systems is increasingly recognized as a critical driver of equitable, people-centered, and resilient service delivery. This course explores how women leaders influence care models, shape community-responsive policies, and drive innovations that strengthen health outcomes. It provides participants with a deep understanding of gender-responsive leadership approaches that reduce inequities and build stronger, more accountable local care structures.

The program examines the historical and structural barriers that have limited women’s full participation in health governance and community-based service administration. It highlights evidence-based strategies for improving representation, strengthening decision-making influence, and creating institutional cultures that actively enable women to lead effectively. Through real-world case studies, participants engage with examples of women-led health and social care solutions that have transformed service quality across diverse contexts.

A core element of the course is its focus on community-level leadership where women often play visible yet undervalued roles. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing unpaid and informal care work, integrating community voices into planning processes, and building systems that reflect the lived realities of women as both leaders and service users. Participants gain skills to advance gender equity within local administrative structures, community health committees, and frontline service networks.

The course also equips participants to analyze data, navigate change processes, and apply gender-aware leadership tools that support inclusive system transformation. Participants learn to evaluate health gaps, assess community needs, and translate insights into actionable policies that promote quality care, social protection, and equity. Leadership simulations, group exercises, and applied planning frameworks strengthen practical competence.

Moreover, the training highlights emerging issues such as digital health leadership, intersectional equity considerations, crisis-response management, and the role of community-based women’s organizations in strengthening accountability and transparency. It provides forward-looking insights into transforming social care ecosystems through inclusive governance and collaborative leadership models.

Participants will emerge better prepared to champion reforms, lead multidisciplinary community health teams, and drive social care initiatives that improve outcomes for women, children, and vulnerable groups. The course provides a holistic foundation for leaders committed to advancing gender-responsive community health and social care systems.
