Course Introduction

Women’s leadership in climate finance is increasingly recognized as a critical driver of inclusive and effective climate action, particularly as global economies transition toward low-carbon and sustainable development pathways. Women leaders bring unique perspectives that strengthen equity, resilience, and community-centered climate solutions. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how women can shape climate finance systems and green transitions.

Climate finance plays a vital role in supporting mitigation and adaptation strategies, yet women remain underrepresented in decision-making processes that determine how these resources are allocated. This imbalance limits the effectiveness of climate investments and weakens inclusive development outcomes. This course explores strategies to close this leadership gap.

A key focus of the program is strengthening women’s participation in green financing mechanisms such as carbon markets, climate funds, sustainable investment portfolios, and green bonds. Participants will learn how to engage effectively in financial systems that support environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

The course also examines policy and institutional frameworks that govern climate finance, including international agreements, national climate strategies, and private sector sustainability commitments. Participants will explore how these frameworks can be influenced and shaped by women leaders.

In addition, the program highlights the importance of integrating gender-responsive approaches into climate transition strategies. This includes ensuring that climate projects address the needs of women, particularly in vulnerable communities affected by climate change impacts such as droughts, floods, and resource scarcity.

Ultimately, this course equips participants with the leadership skills, technical knowledge, and strategic insight required to advance women’s participation in climate finance and drive inclusive green transitions globally.
