Course Introduction

Women’s economic empowerment is a critical driver of inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. This course provides a comprehensive exploration of strategies, policies, and practical tools that enable women to participate meaningfully in economic systems, access productive resources, and build resilient livelihoods in both formal and informal sectors.

Despite progress in gender equality, women continue to face structural barriers such as limited access to finance, unequal land ownership rights, unpaid care burdens, and restricted market opportunities. This course examines these constraints in depth and equips participants with evidence-based approaches to addressing systemic inequalities that limit women’s economic potential.

The course emphasizes sustainable livelihoods as a holistic framework that integrates income generation, skills development, social protection, and environmental sustainability. Participants will learn how to design and implement programs that strengthen women’s resilience while promoting long-term economic independence and household stability.

A strong focus is placed on financial inclusion, entrepreneurship development, value chain participation, and access to markets. The course explores innovative financing mechanisms such as microfinance, digital financial services, and impact investment models that support women-led enterprises and economic initiatives.

Participants will also engage with emerging issues including climate change adaptation, digital economy participation, green jobs, and care economy transformation. These areas are increasingly shaping the future of work and provide new opportunities for women’s economic advancement.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate women’s economic empowerment programs that promote sustainable livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and drive inclusive economic transformation.
