Course Introduction

The Women Empowerment and Gender Transformative Programming Training Course is a comprehensive professional development programme designed to strengthen the capacity of practitioners working to advance gender equality, women’s rights, and inclusive development. It focuses on equipping participants with practical tools and theoretical grounding to design, implement, and evaluate gender-responsive and transformative interventions across diverse socio-economic and cultural contexts.

The course explores the structural drivers of gender inequality, including social norms, institutional barriers, economic disparities, and policy gaps that limit women’s participation in development processes. Participants will gain a deep understanding of intersectionality and how overlapping identities such as age, disability, and geography shape women’s empowerment outcomes.

It further provides practical guidance on integrating gender transformative approaches into development programming, ensuring that interventions go beyond inclusion to actively challenge and reshape unequal power relations. Emphasis is placed on mainstreaming gender across sectors such as education, health, governance, livelihoods, and climate resilience programming.

The training also builds strong skills in gender analysis, programme design, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks that are responsive to women’s needs and rights. Participants will learn how to develop indicators that capture empowerment outcomes and measure long-term structural change.

In addition, the course highlights the importance of advocacy, policy influence, and institutional reform in advancing gender equality at local, national, and global levels. It equips participants to engage stakeholders, mobilize resources, and strengthen accountability mechanisms for gender justice.

Finally, the programme prepares professionals to become champions of transformative change by promoting inclusive leadership, equitable participation, and sustainable empowerment strategies that enable women and girls to fully realize their social, economic, and political potential.
