Introduction
The extractive industries, including mining, oil, and gas, are critical drivers of economic growth yet remain male-dominated sectors. Women’s meaningful participation in governance is essential to ensuring inclusive decision-making, transparency, and sustainable development. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to strengthen women’s governance roles in extractive sectors.
The course examines the legal, regulatory, and institutional frameworks governing extractive industries, highlighting the gender gaps and barriers women face in leadership, management, and policy-making. Participants will explore strategies to enhance women’s representation in governance structures.
Participants will gain insights into stakeholder engagement, corporate social responsibility, and community relations, emphasizing the importance of integrating gender perspectives in decision-making and resource management processes.
Emerging topics such as sustainable resource management, environmental governance, transparency initiatives, and the role of technology in extractive industries are analyzed. Participants will learn to address gender-based inequities while promoting economic and environmental sustainability.
The training also covers advocacy, policy development, and regulatory compliance, providing participants with tools to influence industry standards, ensure accountability, and foster inclusive governance practices within extractive sectors.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to design and implement gender-responsive governance strategies, strengthen institutional frameworks, and advance women’s leadership in extractive industries for sustainable and equitable sectoral outcomes.
