Course Introduction
Well testing and pressure transient analysis are essential disciplines in petroleum engineering, providing critical information about reservoir characteristics, well productivity, formation behavior, and production performance. The Well Testing and Pressure Transient Fundamentals Training Course equips participants with comprehensive knowledge of well test planning, pressure measurement techniques, transient flow analysis, reservoir evaluation methods, and interpretation practices that support informed operational decisions throughout the lifecycle of oil and gas assets.
Accurate well testing enables petroleum engineers to evaluate reservoir pressure, permeability, skin factor, reservoir boundaries, fluid movement, and production potential. This course introduces participants to the engineering principles governing pressure transient behavior while providing practical understanding of test design, data acquisition, quality assurance, interpretation methodologies, and performance evaluation techniques that improve reservoir management and production optimization.
Participants will gain practical insight into drawdown tests, pressure buildup tests, interference testing, drill stem testing (DST), injectivity testing, deliverability analysis, pressure derivative interpretation, and reservoir modeling. The course emphasizes the application of field data to characterize reservoirs, optimize well performance, diagnose production problems, and support reservoir development planning using internationally recognized engineering practices.
The digital transformation of the petroleum industry has significantly enhanced well testing through real-time downhole sensors, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies, cloud-based data acquisition, artificial intelligence, advanced pressure transient software, machine learning algorithms, and digital twin applications. This course explores these emerging technologies and demonstrates how they improve data quality, interpretation accuracy, predictive analysis, and operational decision-making across modern oil and gas operations.
As reservoirs become more complex and unconventional resource development expands, engineers face increasing challenges involving horizontal wells, fractured reservoirs, enhanced recovery projects, carbon capture and storage, geothermal applications, and integrated reservoir management. This training addresses these emerging issues while presenting international best practices, sustainability considerations, and innovative analytical approaches that strengthen technical capability and long-term reservoir performance.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the technical knowledge and practical competencies required to plan, execute, interpret, and evaluate well testing programs effectively. They will be equipped to improve reservoir characterization, optimize production strategies, enhance asset performance, strengthen engineering decision-making, and contribute to safe, efficient, and economically successful oil and gas field development.
