Introduction

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives are at the heart of sustainable development, improving health outcomes, livelihoods, and community resilience. Effective WASH project management requires a strategic combination of technical knowledge, participatory planning, and strong leadership to ensure that interventions deliver measurable and lasting impact.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate WASH projects that align with global standards and national development priorities. Participants will gain insights into innovative project design frameworks, community engagement strategies, and results-based management principles tailored to WASH interventions.

A central focus of the training is integrating water resource management, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion in a holistic and sustainable way. Participants will learn how to develop context-specific WASH solutions that consider environmental, cultural, and economic dimensions.

The course also emphasizes the role of data-driven decision-making, using digital tools and monitoring systems to track performance and ensure accountability. Participants will explore key global WASH indicators, reporting requirements, and donor compliance standards.

Emerging trends such as climate-resilient WASH infrastructure, gender-inclusive approaches, and behavior change communication (BCC) strategies are highlighted to enhance the sustainability and inclusiveness of projects. The course further explores cross-sectoral collaboration to strengthen partnerships between governments, NGOs, and private entities.

By the end of the course, participants will be well-equipped to manage complex WASH programs, apply adaptive management principles, and ensure that projects contribute to improved health, equity, and environmental outcomes at scale.
