Course Introduction

Water resources are increasingly under pressure from climate change, population growth, urbanization, and environmental degradation. This course provides an integrated framework for understanding water system vulnerabilities and building long-term resilience through adaptive planning strategies.

Participants will explore the science of climate variability and its direct and indirect impacts on water availability, distribution, and quality across surface water, groundwater, and integrated watershed systems in diverse geographical contexts.

The training emphasizes resilience-based planning approaches that help water managers, engineers, and policy makers anticipate climate risks, reduce vulnerabilities, and design adaptive water infrastructure and governance systems.

A key focus is placed on climate change adaptation tools including hydrological modeling, risk mapping, drought and flood management planning, and ecosystem-based adaptation approaches for sustainable water systems.

The course also integrates policy, governance, and institutional frameworks needed to support climate-resilient water resource management, ensuring alignment with national adaptation plans and global climate commitments.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate water resilience strategies that enhance climate adaptation, safeguard water security, and strengthen ecosystem sustainability.
