Course Introduction
The Vaccine Programme Project Management Course provides a comprehensive framework for professionals responsible for planning, designing, financing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating vaccine programmes and immunization projects. The course focuses on the project management capabilities required to strengthen vaccination coverage, improve programme performance, manage complex delivery systems, and support equitable access to safe and effective vaccines across diverse populations.
The programme covers the full vaccine project lifecycle, beginning with population health needs assessment, immunization gap analysis, programme design, demand forecasting, budgeting, financing, procurement, and implementation planning. Participants will explore practical approaches for routine immunization, catch-up campaigns, outbreak response, new vaccine introduction, life-course immunization, community-based delivery, and targeted vaccination initiatives.
A strong emphasis is placed on vaccine programme operations, including supply planning, cold-chain management, inventory control, distribution, health workforce coordination, service delivery, waste management, and vaccination-site readiness. Participants will examine how to manage the operational dependencies that influence vaccine availability and programme effectiveness while strengthening accountability, quality assurance, safety, and continuity throughout the vaccine delivery chain.
The course also addresses the growing role of digital technologies in immunization programme management. Participants will explore electronic immunization registries, digital vaccination records, GIS, mobile applications, data dashboards, demand forecasting, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and remote monitoring tools. The programme considers how these technologies can improve coverage analysis, stock visibility, population targeting, appointment management, surveillance, and decision-making while addressing data protection, cybersecurity, interoperability, and digital exclusion.
Participants will develop practical capabilities in stakeholder coordination, community engagement, vaccine confidence, risk communication, adverse event monitoring, programme governance, financial management, procurement, and performance improvement. Particular attention is given to identifying and addressing missed communities, misinformation, vaccine hesitancy, access barriers, inequities, supply disruptions, and operational risks that can undermine immunization outcomes.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to manage effective, resilient, data-driven, and sustainable vaccine programmes. They will be able to develop implementation strategies, optimize resources, coordinate public and private-sector stakeholders, strengthen cold-chain and supply systems, monitor vaccination performance, manage programme risks, and use evidence and technology to improve coverage and protect populations from vaccine-preventable diseases.
