Course Introduction

Urban areas worldwide are facing growing challenges in securing reliable, safe, and sustainable water supplies amid rapid urbanization, population growth, and climate variability. The Urban Water Security and Resilient Infrastructure Planning Training Course equips participants with advanced strategies and tools to ensure cities remain water-secure, climate-resilient, and economically sustainable.

This course provides a deep understanding of how integrated water management, infrastructure design, and urban planning can collectively enhance resilience. It focuses on frameworks that ensure equitable water access, efficient resource use, and robust systems capable of withstanding floods, droughts, and contamination events.

Participants will gain expertise in applying risk-based approaches, scenario modeling, and smart infrastructure technologies to anticipate urban water challenges. Through analytical and case-based learning, the course examines practical pathways for improving the reliability and adaptability of water supply systems under uncertainty.

The training also explores the intersection of water security with urban governance, land use planning, energy systems, and environmental sustainability. It integrates emerging concepts such as nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, and water-sensitive urban design to support long-term resilience.

Emphasis is placed on digital transformation in urban water management covering smart metering, predictive analytics, and IoT-enabled monitoring for optimizing operations. Participants will learn how to design and implement projects that minimize non-revenue water, enhance water reuse, and mitigate disaster impacts.

Ultimately, this course empowers participants to develop resilient urban water systems and policies that promote sustainability, climate adaptation, and inclusive growth in rapidly evolving urban environments.
