Course Introduction

Treasury management is a critical financial function responsible for managing liquidity, cash resources, banking relationships, investments, borrowing, foreign exchange exposure, and financial risks. The Treasury Management Auditing Training Course provides participants with a structured approach to auditing treasury activities, evaluating financial controls, assessing risk exposures, testing transactions, and determining whether treasury operations are efficient, properly authorized, and adequately supported by reliable evidence.

Effective treasury auditing requires an understanding of how cash and financial resources move through an organization. Auditors must examine bank accounts, cash forecasts, payment processes, investment activities, financing arrangements, foreign currency transactions, interest calculations, and treasury policies. This course develops practical skills for mapping treasury processes, identifying key risks, assessing controls, and designing audit procedures that address both financial and operational exposures.

The course places particular emphasis on liquidity management and cash forecasting. Participants will learn how to assess the reliability of cash flow forecasts, compare projected and actual cash positions, investigate significant forecast variances, and evaluate whether management maintains appropriate liquidity buffers. Audit procedures will also address bank reconciliations, cash confirmations, restricted cash, intercompany funding, and unusual movements between accounts.

Treasury activities can create significant exposure to fraud, unauthorized transactions, excessive risk-taking, conflicts of interest, payment manipulation, and inappropriate use of financial instruments. Participants will therefore examine segregation of duties, dealing authorities, transaction approvals, bank mandates, confirmation procedures, management override, and exception monitoring. Practical techniques will be used to identify red flags and determine whether treasury transactions comply with established policies and delegated authorities.

Modern treasury environments increasingly depend on treasury management systems, ERP platforms, online banking, automated payment systems, electronic confirmations, dashboards, and data analytics. The course examines how auditors can use these technologies to strengthen transaction testing and continuous monitoring while also addressing cybersecurity, privileged access, system interfaces, automated controls, data integrity, and cyber-enabled payment risks. Emerging applications of artificial intelligence and automation in forecasting and treasury operations are also considered from an audit perspective.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to plan and perform risk-based treasury audits, evaluate treasury governance and internal controls, test cash and banking transactions, assess liquidity and financial risk management, investigate unusual treasury activity, and communicate significant findings effectively. The course combines practical audit procedures, financial analysis, control testing, fraud-risk awareness, technology considerations, and case-based exercises to strengthen treasury oversight and financial governance.
