Course Introduction
Synthetic identity threats are becoming an increasingly sophisticated challenge for organisations, executives, public institutions, and trusted brands. By combining genuine and fabricated personal information, manipulated digital profiles, artificial personas, and AI-generated content, malicious actors can construct identities that appear credible across multiple channels. This course provides a strategic understanding of how synthetic identities are created, detected, investigated, and managed, with particular emphasis on protecting organisational reputation and stakeholder trust.
The course examines the changing identity threat landscape created by generative AI, automated account creation, deepfakes, synthetic media, social engineering, and increasingly convincing digital personas. Traditional verification and reputation monitoring approaches may struggle when fabricated identities are supported by apparently legitimate information, coordinated online activity, or manipulated references. Participants will explore how these threats can affect communications, leadership credibility, customer relationships, investor confidence, public trust, employee safety, and wider organisational resilience.

AI systems can accelerate investigation and identify patterns across large volumes of information, but they can also produce false positives, amplify unreliable sources, or incorrectly connect individuals and entities. The course therefore places strong emphasis on human judgement, evidence validation, source provenance, privacy, proportionality, accountability, and documented decision-making. Participants will learn how to combine automated intelligence with structured verification and escalation processes.
