Introduction

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects play a pivotal role in driving innovation, economic growth, and digital transformation. However, in an era of increasing environmental and social awareness, managing ICT projects through a sustainability lens is no longer optional it is essential. This course on Sustainable ICT Project Management equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to plan, implement, and evaluate ICT projects that are not only effective but also environmentally responsible, socially inclusive, and economically viable.

Participants will explore the fundamentals of ICT project management, including project lifecycle management, stakeholder engagement, budgeting, risk management, and quality assurance, with a strong emphasis on integrating sustainability principles throughout each phase. The course introduces tools and frameworks that help reduce the carbon footprint of ICT infrastructure, ensure energy-efficient solutions, and promote circular economy practices such as e-waste reduction and sustainable procurement.

With real-world examples and case studies, learners will examine how sustainable ICT project management can drive long-term value by minimizing resource consumption, enhancing digital inclusion, and complying with international standards and regulations. Special attention will be given to managing emerging technologies such as cloud computing, IoT, and AI in a way that supports ethical and green ICT development.

This course is ideal for ICT project managers, development practitioners, engineers, policy makers, and sustainability officers who aim to align technology initiatives with sustainable development goals (SDGs). By the end of the course, participants will be empowered to lead ICT projects that meet technical objectives while contributing positively to the environment, society, and economy.
