Course Introduction

The Sustainable Fisheries and Blue Economy Training Course is designed to build technical and strategic capacity for managing marine and aquatic resources in a sustainable, equitable, and economically productive manner. It focuses on balancing ecological conservation with economic development in ocean-based sectors.

As global demand for seafood and marine resources increases, overfishing, habitat degradation, and climate change are placing significant pressure on marine ecosystems. This course provides a structured understanding of how to manage fisheries sustainably while supporting livelihoods and economic growth.

Participants will explore the principles of the blue economy, which emphasizes sustainable use of ocean resources for economic advancement, improved livelihoods, and environmental protection, ensuring long-term ocean health and productivity.

The course integrates fisheries science, marine policy, ecosystem management, and economic planning to equip participants with multidisciplinary tools required for effective marine resource governance and sustainable development.

Emphasis is placed on sustainable fisheries management techniques, marine spatial planning, aquaculture development, and conservation strategies that support biodiversity while enhancing economic resilience.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement sustainable fisheries and blue economy strategies that ensure food security, economic opportunity, and marine ecosystem protection.
