Introduction

The Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns Training Course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of how to balance economic growth with environmental integrity and social well-being. As global demand for resources intensifies, shifting towards sustainable consumption and production (SCP) systems has become central to achieving long-term sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12). This course equips professionals with the tools and frameworks to foster efficiency, circularity, and innovation across value chains.

Participants will explore the drivers and barriers to sustainable consumption and production, examining how production processes, resource use, and consumer behavior contribute to global environmental challenges. The training introduces life-cycle approaches, eco-design principles, and cleaner production strategies to promote responsible resource utilization and minimize waste generation.

Through practical case studies, participants will learn how businesses, governments, and communities can transition to circular economy models that reduce environmental footprints while creating social and economic value. The course also explores sustainable supply chains, green procurement, and corporate sustainability initiatives that integrate SCP principles into daily operations.

The training emphasizes policy frameworks, standards, and multi-stakeholder collaborations that enable the implementation of SCP practices. Participants will gain exposure to best practices from across industries and countries that have successfully achieved measurable progress in sustainability transitions.

Emerging issues such as green innovations, digital solutions for circularity, and behavioral change strategies for sustainable lifestyles will also be explored. The course bridges the gap between theory and practice, providing actionable insights into designing sustainable production systems and influencing consumption choices.

By the end of the course, participants will possess the knowledge and skills to advocate for, design, and implement sustainable consumption and production frameworks within organizations, communities, and policy environments enabling progress toward a greener, more equitable future.
