Course Introduction
Disasters—whether climate-induced, conflict-related, or health emergencies—continue to disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, with women and girls often facing the most severe social and economic impacts. This program is designed to equip women leaders and development professionals with advanced strategic capabilities to lead disaster recovery processes, build resilient communities, and shape inclusive recovery systems that address structural inequalities before, during, and after crises.
Modern disaster recovery is no longer limited to emergency response; it requires long-term resilience planning that integrates governance, social protection, infrastructure rebuilding, and community empowerment. Women leaders play a critical role in shaping these systems due to their lived experiences, community engagement strengths, and leadership in informal and formal recovery structures. This course positions women at the center of resilience architecture.
The program explores how gender dynamics influence disaster vulnerability, recovery speed, and resilience capacity across communities and institutions. Participants will learn how to design gender-responsive disaster risk reduction strategies that ensure equitable access to relief, resources, decision-making, and reconstruction opportunities in post-disaster environments.
A major focus of the course is leadership in crisis environments, including decision-making under uncertainty, coordination with humanitarian agencies, and engagement with government and community stakeholders.
