Course Introduction

Strategic Leadership for Information and Knowledge Management Course is designed to equip current and emerging leaders with the strategic capabilities required to manage information and organisational knowledge as critical drivers of performance, innovation, resilience, and sustainable growth. The programme brings together strategic leadership, information management, knowledge management, organisational learning, and digital transformation to help participants create greater value from organisational knowledge and information resources.

In modern organisations, information and knowledge are essential to effective planning, decision-making, innovation, service delivery, and competitive advantage. Leaders must therefore understand how information is created, captured, evaluated, organised, shared, protected, and transformed into useful knowledge. This course provides practical frameworks for developing information and knowledge strategies that align with organisational priorities while improving accessibility, quality, collaboration, accountability, and decision-making.

Strategic leadership plays a central role in creating an organisational environment where knowledge is valued, shared, and applied effectively. Participants will explore how leaders can establish cultures that encourage collaboration, learning, innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. The programme also examines common barriers such as knowledge hoarding, information silos, weak documentation, employee turnover, fragmented systems, poor communication, and resistance to organisational change.

The course addresses the increasingly important relationship between technology and knowledge management. Participants will examine artificial intelligence, generative AI, automation, data analytics, cloud platforms, collaboration technologies, digital workplaces, and knowledge repositories. Particular attention is given to how leaders can use these technologies responsibly to capture expertise, improve knowledge discovery, support decision-making, and increase organisational intelligence while managing privacy, security, ethical, and information-quality risks.

Participants will also explore how strategic leaders can preserve institutional knowledge and organisational memory during periods of growth, restructuring, retirement, employee mobility, mergers, outsourcing, and digital transformation. Practical approaches to knowledge capture, succession planning, communities of practice, mentoring, lessons learned, after-action reviews, and knowledge-sharing networks will be examined to help organisations retain critical expertise and reduce the risks associated with knowledge loss.

Through practical case studies, leadership scenarios, strategic exercises, group discussions, knowledge-mapping activities, and workplace applications, participants will develop actionable approaches for improving information and knowledge management. By the end of the programme, they will be better equipped to lead knowledge-based organisations, strengthen organisational learning, improve strategic decisions, support innovation, manage digital transformation, and establish sustainable information and knowledge capabilities.
