Course Introduction

Social video has transformed how organisations communicate news, explain developments, document events and engage audiences in real time. Communication teams increasingly need journalism-style capabilities that allow them to gather information, identify credible stories, produce compelling short-form video and distribute it effectively across social platforms while maintaining accuracy, fairness and organisational credibility.

This course equips communication professionals with practical skills for developing social video journalism capabilities within organisational communication environments. Participants learn how to identify newsworthy stories, research and verify information, structure visual narratives, conduct interviews, capture mobile footage and produce concise video content suited to fast-moving digital audiences.

The programme examines the complete social video journalism workflow, from story discovery and editorial planning through field production, interviewing, scripting, filming, editing, publishing, monitoring and evaluation. Particular attention is given to balancing speed and visual impact with factual accuracy, context, accessibility, editorial responsibility and the communication objectives of the organisation.

Participants will explore how AI and digital tools can support social video journalism workflows. AI-assisted transcription, translation, captioning, content classification, topic analysis, summarisation and production support can improve efficiency, while human judgement remains essential for source verification, editorial decisions, visual context, consent, accuracy and responsible publication.

The course also addresses the risks associated with social video journalism, including misinformation, manipulated footage, deepfakes, synthetic media, misleading edits, privacy concerns, copyright issues, accidental disclosure, unsafe filming practices and rapid audience amplification. Participants develop practical verification, approval, governance and crisis-response procedures for managing these challenges.

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to plan, produce and govern effective social video journalism for organisational communication. They will be equipped to identify compelling stories, gather credible evidence, produce mobile-first video, prepare interview content, manage platform distribution and measure audience and communication outcomes while protecting trust and editorial integrity.
