Course Introduction

Social protection systems play a critical role in reducing poverty, addressing inequality, enhancing resilience, and promoting inclusive and sustainable development. Across the world, governments and development partners are increasingly investing in social protection programs to support vulnerable populations, improve human capital outcomes, and strengthen social cohesion. These systems encompass a broad range of interventions, including cash transfers, social insurance, labor market programs, public works initiatives, and social services that protect individuals and households from economic shocks and social risks. This course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills for designing, implementing, and strengthening social protection systems that contribute to inclusive development and long-term prosperity.

As countries face growing challenges such as climate change, economic instability, demographic transitions, conflict, health emergencies, and technological disruptions, the importance of effective social protection systems continues to increase.
