Course Introduction

Social Protection, Livelihoods and Resilience Programming Course is designed to equip development practitioners, NGO professionals, government officers, and humanitarian actors with advanced knowledge and practical skills to design, implement, and manage integrated social protection and livelihoods systems. The course focuses on strengthening vulnerable populations through inclusive policies and sustainable resilience-building strategies.

The course explores foundational concepts of social protection systems including cash transfers, safety nets, social insurance, and labor market interventions. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how these systems reduce poverty, vulnerability, and inequality while promoting inclusive economic growth and long-term resilience in communities affected by shocks and stressors.

Livelihoods programming is a core component of sustainable development. This course examines strategies for enhancing income generation, employment creation, entrepreneurship development, and value chain strengthening. Participants will learn how to design livelihood interventions that are context-specific, market-driven, and capable of improving household resilience and self-reliance.

The training also emphasizes resilience programming, focusing on how communities and systems absorb, adapt, and transform in response to shocks such as climate change, conflict, economic crises, and pandemics. Participants will explore integrated approaches that link social protection, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation.

Emerging issues such as shock-responsive social protection systems, digital cash transfers, climate-resilient livelihoods, adaptive safety nets, fintech-enabled assistance, and anticipatory action frameworks are integrated throughout the curriculum. These innovations are reshaping how governments and organizations support vulnerable populations.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and manage integrated social protection, livelihoods, and resilience programs that reduce vulnerability, strengthen economic security, and enhance long-term community resilience.
