Course Introduction

Social Development Strategies for Inclusive Labour Markets is a comprehensive course designed to equip practitioners, policymakers, and development professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to create fair, accessible, and productive labour markets that include all segments of society. It focuses on reducing inequalities in employment systems.

The course explores structural barriers to labour market inclusion, including unemployment, underemployment, skills mismatches, informality, discrimination, and geographic disparities. Participants will examine how these challenges affect vulnerable populations such as youth, women, persons with disabilities, and rural communities.

A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive employment policies and social development strategies that promote decent work, equal opportunities, and sustainable livelihoods. The course highlights the role of governments, private sector actors, and civil society in shaping inclusive labour systems.

Participants will analyze global and regional labour market models, including active labour market programs, skills development initiatives, entrepreneurship support systems, and social protection for workers. These examples demonstrate practical approaches to improving labour market inclusion.

The training integrates analytical tools for labour market assessment, policy design, and programme implementation. Participants will develop competencies in designing interventions that enhance employability, productivity, and equitable access to work opportunities.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement inclusive labour market strategies that promote decent work, reduce inequality, and strengthen sustainable economic participation for all groups.
