Course Introduction

Effective social development programming requires strong systems for evaluation and impact measurement to ensure accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. This course provides an advanced and practical exploration of evaluation frameworks, methodologies, and tools used to assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and long-term impact of social development programmes in diverse contexts.

In an era where development resources are increasingly constrained and results are closely scrutinized, organizations must demonstrate measurable outcomes and real-world impact. This course equips participants with the skills to design and implement rigorous evaluation systems that capture both quantitative and qualitative dimensions of change, ensuring programmes deliver meaningful and sustainable results.

Participants will explore a wide range of evaluation approaches, including formative, summative, developmental, and impact evaluations. The course emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate methodologies based on programme design, context, and stakeholder needs. It also highlights the integration of mixed-method approaches to provide a holistic understanding of programme performance.

A key focus of the course is impact measurement, including how to define, track, and interpret long-term social change. Participants will learn how to develop indicators, construct theories of change, and apply results-based management frameworks that link activities to measurable outcomes and broader development goals.

The training also explores the role of data systems, digital tools, and innovative technologies in modern evaluation practice. Participants will gain practical experience in using monitoring platforms, data visualization tools, and analytics techniques to enhance evidence generation, reporting, and decision-making processes.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design and manage robust evaluation systems, measure social impact effectively, and use evidence to inform policy, programming, and strategic decision-making. They will be prepared to strengthen accountability and learning within their organizations and contribute to evidence-driven development practice.
