Course Introduction

Sustainable livelihoods are at the core of long-term social development, enabling individuals and communities to secure stable income, reduce vulnerability, and build resilience. This course provides a comprehensive framework for designing and implementing livelihood strategies that are environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable.

The program explores the sustainable livelihoods approach, including livelihood assets, vulnerability contexts, policies, institutions, and processes that shape people's ability to earn a living. Participants will learn how these elements interact to influence development outcomes.

A strong emphasis is placed on integrating poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment into livelihood programming. Participants will understand how to design interventions that balance income generation with resource conservation.

The course also examines rural and urban livelihood systems, including agriculture, informal employment, small enterprises, and emerging digital livelihoods. These systems are critical for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Participants will explore climate change impacts, resource scarcity, and economic shocks as key challenges to livelihood sustainability. Adaptive strategies and resilience-building approaches will be emphasized throughout the training.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate sustainable livelihood programs that enhance resilience, reduce poverty, and promote long-term development.

Training Approach
