Introduction

Climate change is increasingly affecting livelihoods, social systems, economic stability, food security, public health, and community resilience across the world. Vulnerable populations, particularly women, youth, indigenous communities, rural households, and low-income urban populations, are disproportionately affected by climate-related shocks such as droughts, floods, displacement, food insecurity, environmental degradation, and loss of livelihoods. This course equips participants with practical knowledge and strategic approaches for integrating social development principles into climate adaptation and resilience-building initiatives.

The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between climate change, social vulnerability, inequality, governance systems, and sustainable development. Participants will examine how social development interventions can strengthen adaptive capacity, reduce climate risks, enhance community resilience, and support inclusive recovery processes within vulnerable populations and fragile socio-economic environments.
