Course Introduction

Inequality remains one of the most persistent barriers to sustainable development, affecting access to resources, opportunities, and social mobility. This course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding how social development approaches can effectively reduce inequality in diverse contexts.

The program explores the structural, economic, and social drivers of inequality, including poverty, discrimination, unequal access to education, healthcare disparities, and labor market exclusion. Participants will learn how these factors reinforce intergenerational disadvantage.

A strong emphasis is placed on designing inclusive policies and programs that promote equitable access to services and opportunities. Participants will examine how redistribution mechanisms and targeted interventions can reduce gaps between different population groups.

The course also focuses on the role of social protection systems, education reform, and labor market inclusion in addressing inequality. These systems are critical for ensuring fair access to economic and social opportunities.

Participants will explore the intersection of inequality with gender, disability, geography, ethnicity, and age. Special attention is given to vulnerable and marginalized populations who experience multiple forms of exclusion.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate social development strategies that effectively reduce inequality and promote inclusive and sustainable development.
