Course Introduction

Social development and the wellbeing economy represent a paradigm shift from traditional growth-focused development models toward people-centered, inclusive, and sustainable systems. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of how wellbeing-oriented policies can improve quality of life, reduce inequality, and promote sustainable social progress across diverse contexts.

The course explores the conceptual foundations of the wellbeing economy, including human-centered development, social justice, environmental sustainability, and equitable distribution of resources. Participants will examine how these principles challenge conventional GDP-focused policy frameworks and provide alternative approaches to measuring and achieving societal progress.

A strong emphasis is placed on policy design and implementation for wellbeing-oriented development systems. Participants will learn how to integrate wellbeing indicators into national planning, budgeting, and governance structures to ensure that public policies prioritize health, education, equality, and social cohesion.

The program also highlights the role of institutions, governance systems, and fiscal policies in shaping wellbeing outcomes. Learners will explore how governments can reorient economic systems toward inclusive growth, social protection, and sustainable development that benefits all citizens, especially vulnerable populations.

Emerging global issues such as climate change, mental health, digital wellbeing, demographic shifts, and inequality are integrated into the curriculum. These challenges require innovative policy responses that balance economic, social, and environmental dimensions of wellbeing in a rapidly changing world.

Ultimately, this course equips participants with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate wellbeing economy policies that promote human flourishing. Participants will be empowered to transform development systems toward inclusive prosperity, social justice, and long-term sustainability.
