Course Introduction
Sentiment, Opinion and Thematic Analytics Training Course provides researchers and professionals with practical knowledge for systematically analysing opinions, attitudes, emotions, perceptions, and recurring themes within large volumes of textual data. Participants learn how computational methods can complement traditional qualitative analysis and support evidence-based interpretation.
The course explores how sentiment analysis can be used to identify positive, negative, and neutral expressions, while recognising that human language often contains ambiguity, sarcasm, irony, context, and subtle emotional signals. Participants examine approaches for interpreting sentiment responsibly across surveys, reviews, interviews, social media, reports, and other text-rich sources.
Opinion analytics extends text analysis beyond simple sentiment classification by examining viewpoints, preferences, arguments, attitudes, and evaluative statements. Participants learn how to identify opinion-bearing language, compare perspectives across groups or documents, and structure findings in ways that support meaningful research and organisational analysis.
Thematic analytics provides techniques for discovering recurring concepts, themes, patterns, and relationships within extensive textual collections. Participants explore approaches including keyword analysis, thematic coding, topic modelling, clustering, semantic analysis, and modern embedding-based methods to identify significant patterns while maintaining appropriate analytical and contextual interpretation.
The course also addresses advanced developments in artificial intelligence, including transformer-based models, large language models, contextual embeddings, automated thematic analysis, and AI-assisted qualitative research. Participants consider how these technologies can improve analytical efficiency while critically assessing issues such as hallucination, bias, interpretability, validation, reproducibility, and model dependency.
By completing the Sentiment, Opinion and Thematic Analytics Training Course, participants will be better prepared to design and implement structured text analytics workflows for research, business intelligence, customer insights, policy analysis, social research, and evidence synthesis. Emphasis is placed on practical application, critical interpretation, ethical data use, and producing defensible analytical findings.
