Introduction

This course begins with a foundational overview of procurement processes and the challenges that traditional procurement systems face, including issues related to transparency, fraud, delays, and inefficiencies. Participants will learn how blockchain technology offers a decentralized, tamper-proof ledger that enhances security and accountability across procurement activities. The course will explore blockchain fundamentals and their relevance to transforming procurement operations.

Next, the course dives into smart contracts self-executing agreements coded on the blockchain. Learners will understand how smart contracts automate procurement workflows by enforcing contract terms without intermediaries, reducing errors, and accelerating transaction times. Practical examples and case studies will illustrate how smart contracts can streamline supplier onboarding, purchase orders, invoicing, and payments.

Participants will also examine the security benefits of blockchain and smart contracts in procurement, including fraud prevention, data integrity, and auditability. The course will address common cybersecurity risks and how blockchain’s cryptographic features mitigate these threats. Strategies for integrating blockchain with existing procurement systems and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks will be discussed.

The course further covers emerging issues such as scalability, interoperability between blockchain platforms, and the legal considerations surrounding smart contract enforceability. Ethical and privacy concerns related to data sharing on blockchains will also be explored to prepare participants for responsible implementation.

Finally, learners will engage in hands-on activities and scenario-based exercises to design blockchain-enabled procurement solutions. The course will conclude with guidance on best practices for adoption, change management, and future trends in blockchain applications for procurement. By the end, participants will be equipped to lead secure, efficient, and innovative procurement initiatives leveraging blockchain and smart contracts.
