Course Introduction
The SDG Data Analytics and Indicator Reporting Training Course provides a comprehensive and practical approach to using data analytics for measuring, monitoring, analysing, and reporting progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will explore how SDG indicators can be transformed into actionable intelligence that supports national planning, institutional performance management, programme implementation, policy analysis, and evidence-based decision-making.
The course examines the architecture of SDG indicators and the processes required to produce reliable, timely, comparable, and policy-relevant information. Participants will learn how to interpret indicator definitions, understand data requirements, assess measurement methodologies, identify appropriate data sources, and establish analytical workflows that support consistent reporting across sectors, geographic areas, population groups, and reporting periods.
A major focus is placed on SDG data management and analytics, including data collection, cleaning, validation, integration, disaggregation, trend analysis, benchmarking, and visualisation. Participants will develop practical skills for identifying data gaps, analysing changes in indicator performance, comparing progress against targets and baselines, and generating insights that can inform policy priorities, programme adjustments, resource allocation, and institutional accountability.
The training also explores the relationship between SDG indicators, national development frameworks, sector strategies, institutional plans, monitoring and evaluation systems, and programme-level results frameworks. Participants will learn how to align different data systems and reporting processes so that SDG information can be efficiently connected with national priorities and organisational performance requirements without compromising indicator definitions or data quality.
Particular attention is given to SDG indicator reporting, data storytelling, dashboards, metadata, data governance, and communication of statistical evidence. Participants will examine how to present complex SDG datasets through clear tables, charts, dashboards, analytical reports, and narrative explanations while maintaining transparency around data sources, methodologies, limitations, estimates, revisions, and disaggregation requirements.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to strengthen SDG data analytics and indicator reporting systems within their organisations and institutions. They will be better prepared to produce credible indicator reports, identify areas of progress and concern, communicate evidence to decision-makers, strengthen data quality, and support continuous monitoring of sustainable development performance.
