Course Introduction

The Risk Management for Extractives and Mining Sector Training Course equips mining and extractives professionals with the skills to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, environmental, and regulatory risks. Participants learn practical strategies to improve project performance, safety, and sustainability in complex and high-risk environments.
Mining and extractives projects face unique challenges, including safety hazards, environmental compliance, volatile commodity markets, and stakeholder disputes. This course provides robust methodologies to anticipate risks, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure continuity while optimizing operational and financial outcomes for extractive projects.
Participants gain expertise in integrating risk management throughout exploration, extraction, processing, and distribution phases. Emphasis is placed on both qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, scenario planning, and early-warning mechanisms to proactively manage hazards and uncertainties in mining operations and extractives projects.
Governance, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement are central to effective risk management. Participants explore legal frameworks, permitting requirements, and ethical practices while learning to foster accountability, transparency, and resilience within mining and extractive project teams.
Emerging topics, such as ESG risk, climate-related hazards, technology adoption, and supply chain vulnerabilities, are explored in depth. Participants learn to leverage predictive analytics, digital monitoring, and data-driven decision-making tools to reduce operational, financial, and environmental risks while ensuring sustainable performance.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design and implement comprehensive risk management frameworks for extractives and mining projects. They will enhance governance, mitigate operational and environmental hazards, and ensure sustainable and resilient project outcomes across the sector.
