Course Introduction

The Revenue Reconciliation and Settlement Auditing Training Course provides a practical framework for auditing the processes used to reconcile revenue transactions, collections, settlements, and financial records across operational and accounting systems. The course helps participants determine whether revenue generated through cash, cards, banks, mobile payments, payment gateways, digital platforms, agents, and other channels is accurately matched, settled, recorded, and reported.

The course examines the complete revenue reconciliation lifecycle, beginning with transaction origination and continuing through billing, collection, settlement, banking, reconciliation, accounting, and financial reporting. Participants learn how to identify the different records generated by operational systems, payment providers, banks, collection agents, and accounting systems and how to establish reliable audit trails between transactions, settlements, and general ledger balances.

A major component of the training focuses on reconciliation methodology and transaction matching. Participants learn to compare revenue transactions with invoices, receipts, payment records, settlement files, bank statements, merchant reports, receivables ledgers, and accounting entries. The course addresses unmatched items, timing differences, duplicate transactions, partial settlements, rejected payments, reversals, chargebacks, unapplied receipts, fees, commissions, and foreign-exchange differences.

The program also examines settlement controls across card processors, banks, mobile-money platforms, payment gateways, collection agents, marketplaces, branches, and other intermediaries. Participants evaluate settlement schedules, settlement amounts, transaction fees, commissions, deductions, taxes where applicable, reserves, chargebacks, and net settlement calculations. Emphasis is placed on independently verifying whether amounts expected to be settled are actually received and properly accounted for.

Fraud, revenue leakage, and control failures are addressed throughout the course. Participants examine risks involving delayed settlements, concealed collections, manipulated reconciliation items, unauthorized adjustments, fictitious transactions, duplicate settlements, settlement diversion, inappropriate write-offs, and collusion. The training also covers automated reconciliation, APIs, ERP interfaces, payment platforms, cybersecurity, access controls, data integrity, artificial intelligence, and continuous monitoring of revenue settlement activity.

Through practical exercises and case studies, participants develop the ability to perform end-to-end revenue reconciliation and settlement audits using controls testing, substantive procedures, transaction matching, aging analysis, exception investigation, analytical procedures, data analytics, and independent confirmations. Participants learn to quantify unresolved differences and revenue leakage, evaluate the effectiveness of reconciliation controls, identify root causes, formulate corrective actions, and prepare evidence-based audit findings and recommendations.
