Introduction

Research plays a fundamental role in generating knowledge, informing decisions, and guiding policy and practice across all fields. The Research Methodology Training Course is designed to equip participants with the foundational skills and tools necessary to design, conduct, and evaluate research effectively. Whether for academic, institutional, or field-based studies, this course provides a structured approach to understanding the research process from conception to conclusion.

Participants will explore both qualitative and quantitative research methods, gaining insights into how to select appropriate methodologies, develop research questions, and construct data collection instruments. The course emphasizes the importance of research design, ethical considerations, and sampling techniques, ensuring that participants are able to produce reliable, valid, and ethical research outcomes.

Through interactive sessions, real-life case studies, and practical exercises, the course provides hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Participants will also learn how to use various research tools and software, and how to present research findings effectively for different audiences. The course promotes a problem-solving approach, allowing participants to apply their knowledge to current and emerging issues within their professional contexts.

This training is ideal for students, researchers, NGO staff, policy analysts, and professionals involved in program design, evaluation, and knowledge generation. By the end of the course, participants will be confident in their ability to independently plan and execute research projects, and to critically evaluate research conducted by others, contributing to evidence-based practices and decisions.

·       Private sector analysts and market researchers involved in customer research, product development, and strategy planning.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course the learners should be able to:

·       Understand the purpose and types of research used in academic and professional settings.

·       Develop clear research questions, objectives, and hypotheses based on identified problems.

·       Select appropriate research designs and methods for qualitative, quantitative, or mixed approaches.

·       Apply effective sampling techniques to choose study participants and determine sample size.

·       Design and use reliable data collection tools such as surveys, interviews, and observation checklists.

·       Follow ethical guidelines in research by protecting participants' rights and ensuring informed consent.

·       Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate techniques and software tools.

·       Conduct and synthesize literature reviews to support and guide your research project.

·       Report and present research findings clearly through written reports, tables, and visual presentations.
