Course Introduction

Research, Evidence Generation and Policy Influence for NGOs Training Course is designed to equip development practitioners with the knowledge, methodologies, and practical tools required to generate high-quality evidence and translate research findings into effective policy influence strategies. In an increasingly data-driven development environment, NGOs must be capable of producing credible evidence that informs decision-making, strengthens advocacy efforts, and contributes to meaningful policy reforms.

Development organizations are increasingly expected to demonstrate impact, accountability, and effectiveness through evidence-based approaches. This course provides participants with comprehensive skills in research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination. It enables NGOs to move beyond project implementation and become influential contributors to policy debates, sector learning, and development innovation.

Participants will learn how to design rigorous research studies that address critical development challenges and generate actionable findings for policymakers, donors, and stakeholders. The course emphasizes practical approaches to evidence generation that support programme improvement, organizational learning, and strategic advocacy while ensuring ethical and methodological rigor.

The training also explores emerging trends in research and policy engagement, including big data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital data collection, behavioral insights, participatory research, and real-time evidence systems. Participants will gain an understanding of how modern technologies and innovative methodologies are transforming evidence generation and policy influence processes globally.

Special attention is given to policy analysis, stakeholder mapping, advocacy planning, knowledge translation, and strategic communication. Participants will learn how to package complex research findings into compelling policy messages that resonate with decision-makers and influence public policies, institutional practices, and development investments.

Ultimately, this course empowers NGOs to strengthen their role as knowledge producers, evidence brokers, and policy influencers. By enhancing research capacity and policy engagement skills, participants will be able to generate credible evidence, shape development agendas, influence public policy, and contribute to sustainable social change and improved development outcomes.
