Course Introduction

Remote sensing has become one of the most powerful scientific tools for observing, understanding, and responding to climate variability and long-term climate change. This course introduces participants to the principles and applications of remote sensing technologies used in climate monitoring systems across global, regional, and local scales.

The increasing frequency of climate-related disasters such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, and sea-level rise demands accurate and timely environmental data. Remote sensing provides continuous Earth observation capabilities, enabling professionals to track atmospheric, terrestrial, and oceanic changes with high precision and consistency.

Participants will explore how satellite imagery, aerial sensors, and drone-based systems are used to collect climate data. The course emphasizes practical interpretation of remote sensing outputs for climate trend analysis, early warning systems, and environmental decision-making processes.

A strong focus is placed on climate indicators such as land surface temperature, vegetation health, rainfall variability, glacial retreat, and carbon emissions. Learners will gain skills in extracting and analyzing these indicators using modern geospatial tools and platforms.

The training also integrates emerging technologies such as AI-based image processing, cloud computing for geospatial data, and real-time Earth observation systems. These innovations are transforming how climate monitoring is conducted globally.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply remote sensing techniques to support climate adaptation planning, environmental risk assessment, and sustainable resource management strategies.
