Introduction

Public health, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are fundamental to improving community well-being and reducing disease burdens. NGOs and development agencies must implement evidence-based interventions that address health risks and promote sustainable practices. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to design, manage, and evaluate integrated public health and WASH programs.

Participants will explore the principles of community health, disease prevention, and health promotion. The course emphasizes understanding local health determinants, behavioral patterns, and environmental factors that influence health outcomes.

WASH programming is a critical component of public health interventions. Participants learn strategies to improve access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices, ensuring interventions are inclusive, culturally appropriate, and sustainable.

The course emphasizes participatory approaches for community engagement. Participants will gain skills to work with stakeholders, local authorities, and community members to co-create health solutions, enhance ownership, and ensure behavior change adoption.

Monitoring, evaluation, and learning are essential for program success. Participants will learn to develop indicators, track outcomes, and apply lessons to improve public health and WASH program effectiveness, accountability, and impact.

Through case studies, simulations, and practical exercises, participants will acquire competencies to design, implement, and scale public health and WASH interventions that improve community health outcomes and contribute to sustainable development.
