Course Introduction

Crises such as natural disasters, conflicts, pandemics, and emergencies often leave communities deeply affected, not only physically but also emotionally and psychologically. Beyond the immediate damage, survivors, responders, and communities face long-term mental health challenges that, if unaddressed, hinder recovery and resilience. This course focuses on building psychosocial support systems to strengthen mental health and promote community healing in times of crisis.

The training emphasizes the importance of psychosocial interventions in mitigating trauma, restoring dignity, and rebuilding trust among affected populations. Participants will explore strategies that integrate mental health support with community recovery efforts, ensuring that healing is collective and sustainable.

Through interactive learning, participants will gain knowledge in psychological first aid (PFA), trauma-informed care, stress management, and culturally sensitive approaches. The program highlights evidence-based techniques to support individuals, families, and communities as they process grief, loss, and disruption caused by emergencies.

Special focus is given to vulnerable groups, including children, refugees, displaced persons, and frontline responders, who often bear the heaviest psychological burdens during crises. The course also addresses the role of leadership in fostering supportive environments that prioritize mental health in disaster response planning.

Emerging issues such as the use of digital platforms for remote counseling, community-based healing practices, and integrating psychosocial support into humanitarian logistics are explored to ensure modern and adaptable approaches to crisis management.

By the end of this five-day course, participants will have the tools to design, implement, and manage psychosocial support programs that strengthen resilience, foster healing, and empower communities to rebuild after crises.
