Introduction
Pandemics and health emergencies create profound psychosocial challenges, affecting mental health, social cohesion, and community resilience. This course explores the psychological and social consequences of epidemics and equips participants with skills to respond effectively.
Participants will examine stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma resulting from pandemics and emergencies. The course highlights both immediate and long-term mental health impacts on individuals, families, and communities, with practical strategies to mitigate harm.
The course emphasizes evidence-based interventions, including psychosocial support, community engagement, and resilience-building strategies. Participants will learn to develop programs that enhance coping, adaptive behavior, and wellbeing during health crises.
Special attention is given to vulnerable populations, including children, elderly, healthcare workers, and marginalized groups disproportionately affected by health emergencies. Participants will explore inclusive approaches and culturally sensitive support mechanisms.
Participants will examine the role of public health systems, NGOs, and governments in delivering mental health and psychosocial interventions. The course covers emergency preparedness, risk communication, and policy frameworks to support affected populations.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to assess psychosocial impacts, design and implement mental health interventions, strengthen community resilience, and lead initiatives that address the short- and long-term effects of pandemics and health emergencies.
