Course Introduction

Modern projects increasingly depend on cloud platforms, project management information systems, collaboration tools, digital engineering environments, mobile applications, connected devices, common data environments, and integrated enterprise systems. This growing digital dependency creates new cybersecurity and digital risks that can affect project schedules, budgets, information integrity, contractual obligations, operational continuity, and stakeholder confidence. The Project Management Cybersecurity and Digital Risk Course provides project professionals with practical knowledge for identifying, assessing, managing, and governing cybersecurity and digital risks throughout the project lifecycle.

The course examines cybersecurity from a project management perspective rather than treating it solely as an information technology responsibility. Participants explore how project managers, PMOs, project controls teams, engineers, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and business stakeholders contribute to protecting project information and technology-enabled processes. The course addresses risks associated with unauthorized access, data loss, ransomware, phishing, credential compromise, malicious software, insecure integrations, cloud environments, insider threats, system vulnerabilities, and weaknesses in project information management practices.

A major focus is the integration of cybersecurity and digital risk into project risk management frameworks. Participants learn how to identify technology-related threats, assess probability and impact, evaluate vulnerabilities and dependencies, establish risk ownership, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor changing exposure throughout delivery. The course also examines how cybersecurity risks can affect scope, schedule, cost, quality, procurement, contracts, resources, safety, regulatory compliance, and business continuity, enabling project teams to treat cyber exposure as an integrated delivery risk rather than an isolated technical issue.

Digital projects frequently involve complex ecosystems of internal systems, external platforms, contractors, suppliers, cloud services, APIs, connected devices, BIM environments, IoT technologies, drones, digital twins, and artificial intelligence. Participants therefore examine third-party and supply-chain cybersecurity, system integration risks, access management, data exchange, software dependencies, technology vendors, and shared information environments. Practical approaches are presented for incorporating cybersecurity requirements into procurement, contracts, system selection, implementation, project governance, and acceptance criteria.

The course also emphasizes cybersecurity governance, controls, incident preparedness, and response. Participants explore access control, authentication, least-privilege principles, information classification, encryption, secure configuration, backup strategies, monitoring, auditability, vulnerability management, incident escalation, recovery planning, and lessons learned. Particular attention is given to establishing clear responsibilities between project teams, IT functions, vendors, security specialists, and organizational leadership. Participants learn how project governance can incorporate cyber controls without unnecessarily slowing project delivery.

Emerging technologies introduce both new opportunities and new categories of digital risk. The course examines cybersecurity implications of artificial intelligence, generative AI, autonomous agents, digital twins, IoT, cloud computing, connected construction sites, reality capture, mobile technologies, and increasingly automated project workflows. Participants consider risks such as AI-generated misinformation, prompt injection, sensitive-data exposure, model manipulation, autonomous decision errors, shadow AI, and insecure AI integrations. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to build practical cybersecurity-aware project environments that strengthen resilience, protect information, support continuity, and enable responsible digital transformation.
