Introduction

The Project Design using Logical Framework Approach (LFA) Course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to design effective development projects using the Logical Framework Approach. LFA is a systematic planning methodology widely used by development agencies, governments, and non-governmental organizations to improve project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. This course introduces participants to the fundamental principles, steps, and tools of LFA, enabling them to articulate project objectives clearly, identify key assumptions, and develop performance indicators.

Participants will learn how to conduct stakeholder analysis, problem and objective analysis, and how to construct the logical framework matrix, which serves as the backbone of effective project planning. The course emphasizes participatory approaches to project design, ensuring that beneficiary needs and contextual factors are fully integrated into the planning process. By applying real-life case studies and hands-on exercises, learners gain practical experience in developing project logframes and ensuring internal logic and coherence.

Additionally, the course delves into the alignment of project design with organizational strategies, donor requirements, and results-based management frameworks. Special focus is given to designing measurable indicators, identifying means of verification, and integrating risk analysis into project frameworks. These skills are essential for enhancing transparency, accountability, and results in project implementation.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to develop high-quality project proposals and logical frameworks that are robust, responsive, and results-oriented. This course is ideal for project managers, development practitioners, M&E officers, and anyone involved in the planning and management of development interventions seeking to improve the quality and effectiveness of their projects through structured design methodologies.

Duration

5 days

Who should Attend?

This course is ideal for a wide range of professionals:

·         Project Managers and Coordinators who are responsible for designing and overseeing project activities and ensuring effective results delivery.

·         Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialists seeking to strengthen their skills in results-based design and performance measurement using the Logical Framework Approach.

·         Program Officers and Development Practitioners working with NGOs, government agencies, donor organizations, or international development agencies involved in project planning and proposal development.

·         Policy Makers and Planners who need to ensure that project designs align with strategic priorities and deliver measurable outcomes.

·         Consultants, Researchers, and Academics interested in applying structured project design tools in training, research, or advisory services.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course the learners should be able to:

·         Understand the principles and benefits of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) in project design, planning, and management.

·         Conduct problem analysis and stakeholder analysis to ensure inclusive and participatory project planning.

·         Develop clear and coherent project objectives, outcomes, outputs, and activities using the logical hierarchy of results.

·         Construct a complete Logical Framework Matrix, including verifiable indicators, means of verification, and assumptions.

·         Align project design with donor requirements and strategic goals, ensuring consistency and relevance.

·         Apply results-based management (RBM) principles to enhance project accountability and performance measurement.

·         Integrate risk analysis and sustainability considerations into the project planning process.

·         Translate logical frameworks into actionable work plans and implementation strategies.
