Course Introduction
The Primary Healthcare Project Management Course provides a comprehensive and practical framework for professionals responsible for planning, designing, financing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating primary healthcare projects. The course focuses on how effective project management can strengthen accessible, affordable, equitable, and quality health services while addressing population health needs at community and primary care levels.
The programme examines the complete project lifecycle, from health needs assessment and project identification through intervention design, feasibility assessment, budgeting, financing, procurement, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability. Participants will develop practical capabilities for managing primary healthcare infrastructure, workforce, service delivery, community health, health promotion, disease prevention, referral systems, and integrated care initiatives.
A strong emphasis is placed on understanding the factors that influence primary healthcare performance, including population demographics, disease patterns, health-seeking behaviour, workforce capacity, medicine availability, infrastructure, financing, referral systems, digital connectivity, and social determinants of health. Participants will learn how to translate these factors into evidence-based project priorities that respond to the needs of underserved and vulnerable populations.
The course incorporates modern approaches to primary healthcare transformation, including digital health, telemedicine, electronic health information systems, mobile health applications, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, geographic information systems, remote diagnostics, and integrated digital referral platforms. Participants will explore how technology can improve access, continuity of care, disease surveillance, patient management, resource allocation, and project monitoring while addressing privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability, and digital exclusion.
Participants will strengthen their ability to manage the operational, financial, institutional, and stakeholder dimensions of primary healthcare projects. The course addresses health workforce planning, procurement, supply chains, quality improvement, patient safety, community participation, stakeholder coordination, financial management, risk management, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance. Practical approaches to monitoring and evaluation will help participants measure service coverage, quality, utilization, health outcomes, patient experience, equity, and project performance.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to develop and manage sustainable primary healthcare projects that strengthen health systems and improve community-level outcomes. They will be able to design implementation strategies, mobilize resources, coordinate health-sector stakeholders, manage risks, leverage technology, strengthen monitoring systems, and support resilient primary healthcare services that contribute to universal health coverage and healthier communities.
