Course Introduction

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains one of the most widespread human rights and public health challenges affecting individuals, families, workplaces, and communities across the world. GBV includes physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and economic violence rooted in unequal power relations, discrimination, and harmful social norms. This Prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Training Course equips participants with practical knowledge, internationally recognized frameworks, and evidence-based approaches for preventing GBV, protecting vulnerable populations, and promoting safe, inclusive, and respectful environments across humanitarian, development, public, and private sector settings.

Preventing GBV requires more than responding to incidents after they occur; it demands proactive strategies that address the underlying causes of violence, strengthen institutional accountability, and promote positive social and behavioral change. Participants will learn how to identify GBV risk factors, conduct safety and protection assessments, integrate prevention measures into organizational systems, and design interventions that reduce vulnerabilities while strengthening survivor-centered support mechanisms and community resilience. The course emphasizes ethical, rights-based, and inclusive approaches that prioritize dignity, confidentiality, and protection.

The training combines international standards with practical learning through case studies, role-playing exercises, simulations, group discussions, and real-world examples from development and humanitarian contexts. As societies face evolving challenges including humanitarian crises, forced displacement, climate change, digital technology, migration, workplace misconduct, and online abuse, GBV prevention approaches must adapt to emerging risks and vulnerabilities. This course explores current issues such as technology-facilitated gender-based violence, workplace harassment prevention, child protection, disability inclusion, climate-related protection risks, artificial intelligence ethics, mental health and psychosocial support, and community-based prevention models that strengthen long-term resilience and social inclusion.
