Course Introduction

Plastic pollution has emerged as one of the most pressing environmental challenges of the modern era, affecting oceans, rivers, soils, wildlife, and human health. Millions of tons of plastic waste are generated annually, much of which is not properly collected, recycled, or managed, leading to long-term ecological damage. This course provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding plastic pollution pathways, impacts, and sustainable reduction strategies.

The global reliance on single-use plastics has created a linear consumption model that prioritizes convenience over environmental responsibility. As a result, plastic waste accumulates in landfills, water bodies, and natural ecosystems, where it persists for hundreds of years.
