Introduction

The Panel Data Models in STATA Training Course is designed to provide participants with the analytical skills and practical expertise needed to work effectively with panel (longitudinal) data using STATA. Panel data, which combines cross-sectional and time-series dimensions, is increasingly used in economic, social, and health research to control for unobserved heterogeneity and study dynamic behaviors over time. This course offers a strong foundation in the theory and application of panel data econometrics using one of the most powerful statistical tools available STATA.

Through a hands-on and interactive approach, participants will explore the core principles of panel data analysis, including fixed effects, random effects, and difference-in-differences models. The course also delves into advanced topics such as dynamic panel models, instrumental variable techniques, and dealing with endogeneity and autocorrelation in panel datasets. Emphasis is placed on model selection, interpretation of results, and proper diagnostic testing to ensure robust and credible findings.

Participants will gain proficiency in using STATA to structure panel data, run models, interpret outputs, and visualize results. The course provides practical case studies and real-world datasets to help bridge theory and application, making it ideal for researchers, data analysts, economists, policy analysts, and professionals working with longitudinal data in various fields.

By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with both the conceptual understanding and technical skills needed to confidently analyze panel data and draw policy-relevant conclusions. Whether you are new to panel data analysis or seeking to deepen your applied econometric skills, this course will enhance your ability to conduct rigorous and impactful research using STATA.

Who Should Attend?

Professionals who will benefit from this course include:

·       Economists, statisticians, and data analysts working with longitudinal or repeated measures data

·       Researchers and academics conducting applied microeconomic or social science studies

·       Policy analysts and evaluation experts involved in impact assessment and program evaluation

·       Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) specialists working with time-series or panel datasets

·       Graduate students and PhD candidates in economics, public policy, health, or social sciences

·       Professionals in government, NGOs, and international development organizations using STATA for data analysis

·       Anyone seeking to enhance their skills in panel data econometrics using STATA software

Duration

5 days

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the participant should be able to:

·       Understand the structure, advantages, and limitations of panel (longitudinal) data.

·       Distinguish between pooled OLS, fixed effects, and random effects models and know when to apply each.

·       Use STATA to manage, reshape, and prepare panel data for analysis.

·       Apply appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., Hausman test, serial correlation tests, heteroskedasticity tests) in model selection.

·       Interpret and present results from panel data regression models accurately and effectively.

·       Analyze dynamic panel data using techniques such as Arellano-Bond and system GMM estimators.

·       Address endogeneity, autocorrelation, and individual heterogeneity in panel datasets.

·       Implement difference-in-differences (DiD) techniques for policy and impact evaluation.

·       Visualize trends, coefficients, and residuals in panel data using STATA graphics tools.

·       Apply best practices in reporting and documenting empirical findings using panel data analysis.
