Course Introduction

The One Health Project Management Course provides a comprehensive framework for professionals responsible for planning, designing, financing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating integrated projects addressing the interconnected health of people, animals, plants, and ecosystems. The course explores how multidisciplinary project management can bring together public health, veterinary health, agriculture, environmental management, food systems, wildlife conservation, and other sectors to address complex health risks.

The programme covers the complete One Health project lifecycle, from situation analysis and risk assessment through project identification, design, feasibility assessment, budgeting, financing, implementation, procurement, stakeholder coordination, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and sustainability. Participants will develop practical skills for managing projects involving zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, environmental health, biodiversity, climate-related health risks, disease surveillance, and health security.

A major focus is placed on understanding the interconnected drivers of emerging health threats. Participants will examine how land-use change, biodiversity loss, climate change, intensive agriculture, livestock production, wildlife trade, urbanization, environmental degradation, antimicrobial use, food systems, and human mobility can influence disease emergence and transmission. The course provides practical approaches for converting these complex risks into coordinated and measurable project interventions.

The course incorporates modern technologies that are increasingly important to One Health project management, including integrated surveillance platforms, GIS, remote sensing, genomic and pathogen surveillance, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, environmental sensors, digital veterinary systems, and data-sharing platforms. Participants will explore how these technologies can strengthen early warning, risk mapping, outbreak detection, resource allocation, and programme monitoring while addressing data governance, interoperability, cybersecurity, privacy, and responsible technology use.

Participants will strengthen their ability to manage multidisciplinary partnerships involving government agencies, public health institutions, veterinary authorities, environmental organizations, laboratories, agricultural stakeholders, universities, communities, private-sector organizations, and international partners. Particular attention is given to governance, communication, financing, procurement, risk management, community engagement, regulatory coordination, and the practical challenges of integrating institutions and disciplines with different mandates and operating models.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to develop and manage collaborative, evidence-based, resilient, and sustainable One Health projects. They will be able to assess interconnected health risks, develop integrated intervention strategies, establish cross-sectoral governance, mobilize resources, manage implementation, leverage digital technologies, strengthen surveillance, measure impact, and build scalable solutions that protect human health, animal health, environmental health, food systems, and ecosystem resilience.
