Course Introduction
Nutrition-sensitive rural development programming is an integrated approach that ensures rural development initiatives actively contribute to improved nutrition outcomes. This course equips practitioners with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate programs that address underlying causes of malnutrition in rural communities.
Rural development programs often focus on agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihoods, but may not always translate into improved nutrition. This training bridges that gap by integrating nutrition objectives into agriculture, social protection, and rural investment strategies.
Participants will explore how food systems, household income, gender dynamics, and health services interact to influence nutritional outcomes. The course emphasizes systems thinking to address malnutrition in a holistic and sustainable manner.
Special attention is given to vulnerable populations such as women, children, and marginalized rural households. Learners will understand how to design inclusive interventions that improve dietary diversity and food access at community level.
The course also introduces monitoring and evaluation frameworks for nutrition-sensitive programming, enabling participants to measure impact effectively and improve accountability in rural development projects.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to mainstream nutrition into rural development planning, ensuring that development investments directly contribute to improved health and food security outcomes.
