Course Introduction
Nutrition-sensitive agriculture is an integrated approach that seeks to improve not only agricultural productivity and income but also the nutritional status of populations, especially vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and rural households. It recognizes that agriculture plays a central role in food security, dietary diversity, and overall public health outcomes. This course provides participants with practical tools to design, implement, and evaluate agricultural programs that directly contribute to improved nutrition outcomes.
Despite significant advances in agricultural production, malnutrition remains a persistent challenge in many regions, manifesting as undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and rising cases of diet-related non-communicable diseases. This disconnect between food production and nutrition outcomes highlights the need for integrated programming approaches. Participants will explore how agricultural systems can be reoriented to improve dietary quality, food access, and nutrition-sensitive value chains.
Nutrition-sensitive agriculture goes beyond increasing yields to address issues such as food diversity, gender roles in food production, household food utilization, and equitable access to nutritious foods. This course examines how agricultural interventions can be designed to improve nutrition outcomes through crop diversification, livestock integration, biofortification, and improved post-harvest handling. It also emphasizes the importance of linking agriculture with health, education, and social protection systems.
Effective nutrition-sensitive programming requires strong coordination among multiple sectors, including agriculture, health, education, water, sanitation, and social development. Participants will learn how to design multi-sectoral interventions that align policies, programs, and institutional frameworks. The course highlights best practices for fostering collaboration between ministries, NGOs, private sector actors, and community organizations to improve nutrition outcomes at scale.
Climate change, population growth, and changing food systems are reshaping the relationship between agriculture and nutrition. These pressures require innovative approaches that enhance resilience while ensuring sustainable access to nutritious food. Participants will explore climate-smart nutrition strategies, resilient farming systems, and sustainable dietary patterns that support long-term food and nutrition security.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate nutrition-sensitive agricultural programs that improve dietary diversity, strengthen food systems, and enhance nutritional outcomes for vulnerable populations. They will gain practical skills in program design, monitoring, and cross-sector collaboration for sustainable development impact.

Training Venue
The training will be held at our Upskill Training Centre. We also offer training for a group (at a discount of 10% to 50%) at requested location all over the world.
